Rivalry Reignites: Bruins vs. Highlanders Set for Explosive Season Opener on October 8
Puck Drop: 10:20 PM | Location: Centene Ice Center
The wait is over. On October 8th at 10:20 PM, one of the fiercest rivalries in the MWHL reignites as the Bruins face off against the Highlanders in what promises to be a bruising, high-energy season opener.
These two squads have already built a reputation — not just for tight games, but for outright battles on the ice. In their three previous meetings , the action has been anything but calm. Heavy hits, scrappy play, and crowd-igniting moments have defined this matchup. The Bruins lead the head-to-head series, but make no mistake: the Highlanders have been right there , each time coming just short of victory.
Still searching for their first win , the Highlanders have used the offseason to refocus and retool. The hunger to finally break through — especially against their biggest rival — adds serious fuel to what’s already a fiery contest. Expect Missouri to come out swinging.
For the Bruins, the target is on their back. They’ve proven they can win, but in games like these, history means little when emotions are high. Discipline will be key if they want to keep the Highlanders from turning passion into points.
Keys to Watch:
Physicality Early On: Both teams love to play chippy, and setting the tone in the first period could tilt momentum.
Goaltending Duel: In games this tight, one big save can change everything.
Highlanders’ Breakthrough: Will this finally be the night Missouri gets over the hump?
But the stakes go even higher this year.
The Highlanders aren't just looking for their first win over the Bruins — they’re chasing their first championship . The team has made it clear: this isn’t just about rebuilding from their expansion roster in 2024. It’s about making a statement that Missouri is no longer the underdog. With new talent, fresh energy, and a hunger that’s been building for now 3 seasons, the Highlanders are aiming for the top.
October 8th. Bruins vs. Highlanders. Game 1. The rivalry is alive and well — and this year, it might just explode
Mark your calendars. Whether you’re pulling for the Bruins to keep their streak alive or hoping the Highlanders finally claim that long-awaited W, one thing is guaranteed — this isn’t just a game, it’s war on ice .
